A little over a year after its launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been jailbroken for the first time.
The exploit was discovered by a user going by pepsipu, reportedly with the help of OpenAI. The process is quite involved, and requires using the application SmileBASIC 4.4.9 on a Switch 1, a PC, and a Switch 2 console to hack. The steps have to be performed every time a user wants to hack the console, but still opens the door to injecting homebrew, modding games, back up save files, and more on the Switvh 2. pepsipu demonstrates it by hacking Mario Kart World to mod new characters into the game.
i jailbroke the nintendo switch 2
so i modded cinnamoroll, peter griffin, hatsune miku, and more into Mario Kart World, a switch 2 exclusive
now watch my friends and i get cooked by bots
learn more and get the exploit https://t.co/ykjgyfrFRp https://t.co/BOcFhejRz1

That said, this is apparently a software level exploit and will likely be patched by Nintendo very soon. Reports have already surfaced that Nintendo has taken down SmileBASIC on the Switch eshop, so this fix is likely in the works as we speak.
If anything however, it shows that the use of AI tools may allow hackers to crack open the Switch 2 much quicker than the community initially anticipated. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
