Taiwanese Memory Chip Supplier Sees Stronger Than Expected Demand From Nintendo

The Taipei Times recently published an interesting report on Macronix, a manufacturer of memory chips based in Taiwan.

According to a representative at Macronix, Nintendo has made lots of orders for memory chips in the past 2 months. The orders have exceeded Macronix’s expectations and the company says demand is “stronger than expected”.

Macronix added that the stronger than expected demand for memory chips is very unusual, as the first and second quarters are usually quieter months for the company. Thanks to Nintendo’s huge appetite for memory chips, Macronix saw its revenue increase by up to 30%.

Aligning with past reports we can probably assume that all these memory chips are going to be used in the upcoming Nintendo Switch Mini, expected to launch sometime in 2019.
