If you are a longtime Pokemon fan, you might have noticed the number of new Pokemon revealed for Pokemon Sword and Shield before its official launch is lesser than previous titles.
Famitsu asked Game Freak and The Pokemon Company whether that was intentional. Read their full explanation below (translated by NintendoSoup):
Famitsu: “If we compare the number of new Pokemon officially revealed for Pokemon Sword and Shield and the number of new Pokemon officially revealed for past titles, we find that the number of new Pokemon revealed for Sword and Shield before launch is lesser than before. Is that intentional?”
Masuda: “That’s a fairly tough question. I will let The Pokemon Company PR spokesperson Obara answer this.”
Obara: “So as you mentioned, yes, I can confirm it’s intentional that we revealed lesser new Pokemon before the launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield. The reason is because we want everyone to play and encounter new Pokemon by themselves in the games. As these titles have the same essence of what makes Pokemon fun, we hope you will look forward and enjoy.
