Today we have something very interesting to share about the internal codename for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The internal codename comes from the same person who leaked Piranha Plant and Incineroar’s moveset two months before we even knew about them. Anyway, here it goes.
According to the leaker, the internal codename for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is “Cross2”. There is something significant behind the codename, as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U’s codenames are “cross_c” and “cross_f” respectively.
The “Cross2” codename emphasizes a point Masahiro Sakurai made in a recent interview this week. The director said that the team behind Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U are also working on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, something which has not happened since Melee. So the codename is used to symbolize that very thing.
