Earlier this week, we reported on Uniqlo’s Pokemon UTGP 2019 T-Shirt design competition, in which the Grand Prize winner was supposed to have his or her design added as custom clothing in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
Unfortunately, the Grand Prize winner Wen Pei was later discovered to have violated the rules of the competition. Although the contest rules stated that submissions had to be original artwork that had “never been published before”, Wen Pei had previously sold smartphone cases using the artwork he submitted for the contest.
Due to this rule violation, the Pokemon Company has decided to disqualify Wen Pei’s competition entry and have removed all mention of any UTGP 2019 T-Shirt designs appearing in Pokemon Sword & Shield from official materials.
As of this writing, none of the other winning entries in the UTGP 2019 have been announced as a replacement, suggesting that the games will no longer be including a special custom T-Shirt taken from the competition. We will bring more news on the story as it develops.
Do you agree with the decision to disqualify Wen Pei? Should they have chosen a new design to be included as a replacement? Let us know in the comments below.
