Yoshi’s Original Design Looked Like A Crocodile

Nintendo has released an image of unused sprites that were designed during the development of Super Mario World.

The sprites that stood out the most from this image were Yoshi’s sprites. During the development process, Yoshi was missing its round nose and had a flatter back. The original inspiration of Yoshi came from a crocodile.

Yoshi’s design was worked on and reiterated a few times to “make it look cuter”. The end result is a modern Yoshi that we all know and love today.
