Animal Crossing: New Horizons players should be well aware with the strange way Nintendo handles Animal Crossing: New Horizons save data.
When you want to transfer your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island between two systems in the Nintendo Switch family, you have to use a special Save Data tool for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to do it.
Nintendo’s Takuhiro Dohta has confirmed that you don’t have to use the special Save Data tool to transfer over your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island to Nintendo Switch 2. The System Transfer from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 will automatically take care of this, but keep in mind that you won’t be able to access your island on the Nintendo Switch after it is moved over.
“So I should clarify that when you do the system transfer, everything like save data will remain on the Nintendo Switch and once it moves to the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. But the [Animal Crossing] island will be an actual move. So it will leave Nintendo Switch and move over to Nintendo Switch 2.”
