Earlier this year, we learned that Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Yuji Naka had been arrested for taking part in an insider trading scandal that involved Dragon Quest Tact, a smartphone game published by his former employee Square Enix. Well, it looks like the longtime game developer has reportedly gotten in trouble with the law once again.
Japanese newspaper Asahi has reported that Yuji Naka was arrested again for taking part in a second insider trading scandal, this time involving Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier – another smartphone game published by his former employee Square Enix. Specifically, Yuji Naka is accused of using insider knowledge to purchase 144.7m yen’s worth of shares in the game’s developer ATeam before the game was officially revealed to the public.
It is currently not clear if other ex-staff of Square Enix have also been arrested for insider trading involving Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. We’ll report back if we hear more in the future.
