Wondering about Mother 3’s destiny? There’s a bit of insight from Game Informer Senior Editor Imran Khan.
According to Khan, Nintendo was considering localization of Mother 3 for North America and Europe. It seems Nintendo was initially in favor of the idea, until they took a closer look at the game’s elements.
Nintendo, fearing controversy pertaining to certain elements in the game, decided against localizing the title. Instead of editing/censoring content, Nintendo opted to just leave the game in Japan and move forward.
While we can’t confirm what contents of the game they might have been referring to, the Magypsies are a likely reason because of their cross-dressing appearance which is tied to a Japanese stereotype.
Would you rather Nintendo release a censored version of Mother 3, or never see a release outside of Japan?
