The three owners of The Pokemon Company: Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and Game Freak, have registered a trademark for “Armored Mewtwo” in Japan.
Similar to the previously reported Melmetal trademark, it covers video games, merchandising, and other types of events. Some are speculating that the timing of this trademark means it has something to do with the upcoming Pokemon Sword & Shield. This is because some popular rumors mention “Armor Evolution” as a new mechanic for the series.
That said, it is unknown whether this trademark is linked to the new generation of Pokemon games. It is also possible that it instead ties into Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. An armored version of Mewtwo appeared in the original Mewtwo Strikes Back, and may appear again in the upcoming 3D re-imagining.
