After the release of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 7.0.0 update, we can now finally tell what Byleth’s codename was during development.
According to PushDustin, the codename for Byleth used during development was “master”. For comparison’s sake, Joker’s codename was “Jack”, and the Dragon Quest Hero’s codename was “Brave”.
It’s unclear why the codename “master” was used for Byleth, but there’s some speculation that it came from the Japanese word “sensei”. After all, Byleth is a professor at the student academy in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
