Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Aspyr And Saber Interactive Over Star Wars KOTOR II DLC Cancellation

A few months back, developer Aspyr and publisher Saber Interactive announced they would be cancelling the highly anticipated Restored Content DLC for the Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, much to the disappointment of fans.

To recap, the Restored Content DLC promised to add a number of cut features from the game’s original release, including new dialogue and interactions, a bonus mission with fan-favorite droid HK-47, as well as an updated ending. The presence of this DLC was a hot selling point for the Switch release prior to its launch, promising to finally give fans the complete experience they missed out on back in the day.

Following the DLC’s cancellation, a group of these fans have filed a class-action lawsuit against Aspyr and Saber Interactive. As detailed in the case documents, the fans assert that they would never have bought the game had they known the DLC would be cancelled further down the line, and a result Aspyr and Saber are legally obligated to provide refunds.

“In 2022, Defendants [Aspyr and Saber] advertised KOTOR to users of the video console Nintendo Switch as having never-before released ‘Restored Content DLC, Plaintiff and numerous other consumers were excited about the new content that Defendants claimed was ‘coming soon.’ In fact, KOTOR sat at the top of Nintendo’s e-Shop rankings.”

“Plaintiff felt completely duped, In fact, Plaintiff did not even play KOTOR after purchasing it, instead choosing to wait until the Restored Content DLC was released.”

Although Aspyr and Saber did not offer any refunds following the cancellation, it is worth noting that they did offer compensation in the form of game keys for other Star Wars games they published. Evidently, this group of fans feel that this is not acceptable, although whether or not this is enough for their lawsuit to go through remains to be seen.
