When FIFA 18 launched for the Nintendo Switch, EA chose to use a custom engine for the version, thus leaving out The Journey. However, The Journey might come to Switch with FIFA 19.
Speaking US Gamer, FIFA 19 producer, Andrei Lazarescu, shed some light on FIFA 19 for Switch. Although the game will still be using the custom engine, the team is trying to close the gap with the Frostbite Engine. Although Lazarescu’s reply was “Who knows? Maybe”, meaning that there is a possibility, it is also only right to temper the expectations.
“Who knows? Maybe, but it relates to last year as well—we intentionally chose to create a custom experience on Switch because we were looking for a flawless 60fps experience. Maybe there are some gaps between our custom engine and the Frostbite Engine, but every year we’re not just looking to add more future, we’re also looking to build up the engine to cover those gaps. And it’s just Year 2, after all.”
