The GDC has published their annual report on the state of the video game industry – revealing what developers are thinking about the platforms in the market.
Like last year, the results come from a survey sent to developers in the video game industry. This time, the GDC checked in on which games developers were bringing to each platform, and their current interest in said platforms. Here are the statistics for Switch:
- 17% are bringing their current game to Switch
- 19% are planning their next game for Switch
- 37% are interested in Switch
The 37% interest is a 8% drop from last year’s 45% of developers interested in Switch – although its not clear if the number of developers surveyed since last round had increased or decreased.
In any case, here are the same statistics for Sony and Microsoft’s consoles for comparison:
- 11% are bringing their current game to PS5
- 23% are planning their next game for PS5
- 25% are bringing their current game to PS4
- 20% are planning their next game for PS4
- 9% are bringing their current game to Xbox Series X
- 17% are planning their next game for Xbox Series X
- 23% are bringing their their current game to Xbox One
- 20% are planning their next game for Xbox One
All in all, it looks like the Switch is pacing well with upcoming rivals like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Let’s hope all this competition keeps the videogames industry healthy this decade!
