Guide: How To Use Dash Food To Win In Mario Kart World

A new type of item called Dash Food is making its first debut in Mario Kart World, but do you know how to take advantage of it to win?

Let’s find out how in this guide.

What is Dash Food?

In Mario Kart World courses and highways, you can pick up Dash Food at Yoshi’s locations. Unlike item boxes, Dash Food have the appearance of an orange takeout bag, as shown below:

The type of Dash Food that you get is random and depends on the location you’re in, and when you use it, it gives you a speed boost. Using certain types of Dash Food may also help you unlock outfits for main characters – for example, eating a plate of sushi unlocks a Japanese kimono outfit for Peach.

Dash Food tiers

According to an in-depth analysis of Mario Kart World, there are three different tiers of Dash Food.

Tier one gives you a speed boost that is equivalent to two Mushrooms, tier two gives you a speed boost equivalent to one Mushroom, and tier three gives you a speed boost equivalent to half a Mushroom.

Generally speaking, you can expect to get a more powerful type of Dash Food if you’re in a lower position in the race (such as 20th – 24th place), and a less powerful one if you’re in first place or somewhere close to it.

How to identify Dash Food tiers

While there isn’t a hard and fast rule stating which type of Dash Food belongs to which tier, you can roughly guess through two methods:

  1. The best way to tell is by looking at the size and portion of food. For example, a  regular-sized burger is most likely tier two, and a super-large and tall burger with five patties and lots of toppings is tier one
  2. Items like soft drinks, tea, and regular servings of ice cream are usually tier three

Strategy for using Dash Food

You should try to collect Dash Food as much as you can, especially when you’re in first place or somewhere close to first. Keep in mind that you can’t get Mushrooms from item boxes in first place, so this is your only way of getting a speed boost item.

Use Dash Food to take shortcuts or overtake other players at the right time. Also, try not to take shortcuts that are too long especially if you have a tier three Dash Food, as the speed boost won’t get you very far.

While it’s possible to dodge Blue Shells with Mushrooms in Mario Kart World, it is currently unclear whether Dash Food can also be used to dodge them, considering that both Dash Food and Mushrooms work the same way. We will update this guide once more information becomes available.

Conclusion
