Guide: Tips To Complete Pokemon Scarlet/Violet’s Mightiest Mark Hisuian Typhlosion Raid

Over the course of this weekend, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet players will be challenging a 7 Star Tera Raid which features a Fire Tera Type Hisuian Typhlosion with the Mightiest Mark.

Aside from being the only way to obtain Hisuian Typhlosion in the game without the use of Pokemon HOME or trading, the 7 Star Tera Raid gives out a great deal of useful rewards such as Vitamins, Rare Candies, and Ability Patches. This makes being able to complete the raid consistently extremely useful. Below you will find some quick tips and tricks for beating this Raid Battle, as discovered and shared by many members of the Pokemon community.

How To Unlock 7-Star Raids

In order to even participate in this raid battle, players will need to progress far enough in the game to qualify for 7-Star raids. This essentially means meeting the following requirements:

  • Have completed the story and seen the end credits
  • Have completed all Gym Rematches and the Academy Ace Tournament
  • Have completed 10 or more raids rated 4* and above.

Once you have completed these steps, the 7-Star Raid will appear both in your overworld as well as on the Tera Raid board.

Hisuian Typhlosion’s Ability and Moves

  • The Tera Raid Hisuian Typhlosion has a Fire Tera-Type, meaning that it does more damage with its Fire and Ghost moves.
  • As a Fire Tera-Type, it is weak to Water, Rock, and Ground type attacks.
  • Hisuian Typhlosion’s Ability is Frisk, which will not have any relevant effects in this raid.
  • Typhlosion’s notable moves include the following:
    • Flamethrower ~ A powerful Fire-Type Special attack.
    • Infernal Parade ~ A Ghost-Type Special attack which may burn the opponent.
    • Will-O-Wisp ~ A Fire-Type status move that burns the opponent.
    • Focus Blast~ A powerful Fighting-Type Special Attack.
    • Sunny Day ~  A Fire-Type status move that sets sunny weather, boosting the power of Fire-Type attacks.
  • Typhlosion’s Battle Behaviour
    • 99% Time Remaining ~ Typhlosion will use Will-O-Wisp to burn your Pokemon, reducing their physical attack power and causing damage every turn.
    • 95% Time Remaining ~ Typhlosion will use Sunny Day, setting sunny weather and boosting the power of its Fire-Type attacks.
    • 85% Time Remaining ~ Typhlosion will clear all negative effects from itself.
    • 80% Time Remaining ~ Typhlosion will reduce your Tera Orb charge, forcing you to wait more turns before you can Terastalize
    • 70% Time Remaining / 60% HP Remaining ~ Typhlosion will set up its Tera Shield
    • 60% Time Remaining ~ Typhlosion will clear all your buffs and use Bulk Up to raise its Attack and Defense.
    • 40% Time Remaining ~ Typhlosion will use Sunny Day.

General Recommendations

  • Avoid using Pokemon with a weakness to Fire, Ghost, or Fighting moves. Fainting in battle reduces the timer, and if it reaches zero before Typhlosion is defeated, everyone will fail the raid battle.
  • Avoid using Rock-Type Pokemon. Although Rock is strong against Fire, Typhlosion has Fighting-Type moves, which are super effective against Rock-Types.
  • Use Level 100 Pokemon to maximize your chance of successfully completing the raid.
  • Use Vitamins to maximize your Pokemon’s key stats to increase your chance of successfully completing the Raid.
  • Use Cheers when necessary
    • Go For It! ~ Boosts Attacking stats.
    • Heal Up! ~ Heals HP and cures Status conditions.
  • Use moves which reduce Typhlosion’s stats
    • Reduce Def or Sp.Def to take it down faster.
    • Reduce Sp.Atk to prevent it from fainting your Pokemon.
  • Use Pokemon with a Water or Ground Tera-Type to take down its Tera Shield.

Recommended Pokemon

Dachsbun

  • Fairy typing makes resistant to most of Typhlosion’s attacks.
  • Using Dachsbun effectively requires it to have a Fighting Tera-Type, which can be obtained by giving 50 Fighting-Type Tera Shards to the cook at the diner in Medali City (Larry’s Gym).
  • Ability Well-Baked-Body makes Dachsbun immune to Fire-Type attacks, which will instead boost it’s Defense.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Impish Nature
    • Max out HP with HPUp
    • Max out Defense with Iron
    • Fighting Tera Type
  • Required Moves:
    • Body Press ~ Fighting-Type attack which does damage based on Dachsbun’s Defense stat.
    • Snarl ~ Deals damage while reducing Typhlosion’s Sp.Attack atat.
    • Mud Shot ~ Deals damage while reducing Typhlosion’s accuracy, causing its moves to miss.
    • Rain Dance ~ Sets up Rainy Weather, reducing the power of Fire-Type moves.
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Recovers HP while attacking
    • Ability Shield ~ Prevents Typhlosion from removing Dachsbun’s ability
    • Metronome ~ Boosts the power of moves that are used twice or more in a row.
  • Strategy (Main Attacker)
    • Use Snarl to reduce Typhlosion’s Sp.Attack
    • Typhlosion’s AI is programmed to prioritize burning the opponent, meaning it will use Will-O-Wisp most of the time to attempt to burn Dachsbun. However, due to Dachsbun’s ability Well-Baked Body, it will have no effect, instead boosting Defense.
    • After racking up three rounds of Defense boosts from Well-Baked Body, terastalize into a Fighting-Type and start using Body Press, it will do considerable damage despite not being super-effective.
    • When Typhlosion resets its own stats, consider using Snarl once or twice to reduce the power of it’s non-Fire-Type moves, which will still do decent damage to Dachsbun.
    • Continue using Body Press until Typhlosion faints.

Vaporeon

  • Water typing makes resistant to Typhlosion’s Fire-Type moves.
  • Ability Hydration allows it to heal status conditions in rainy weather, which will be useful for curing the burns caused by Typhlosion.

    • Rain Dance ~ Sets up Rainy Weather, reducing the power of Fire-Type moves and boosting the power of Water-Type moves.
    • Fake Tears ~ Reduces the opponent’s Sp.Def
  • Recommended Items:
    • Shell Bell ~ Recovers HP while attacking
  • Strategy (Main Attacker)
    • Reduce Typhlosion’s Sp.Attack using Fake Tears up to three times.
    • Use Rain Dance to remove sunny weather and set up rainy weather.
    • Use Scald to damage Typhlosion
    • Once the Tera Orb is charged, Terastalize into a Water-Type and continue using Scald until Typhlosion faints.
    • Use Rain Dance as needed to remove sunny weather.

  • Water typing makes resistant to Typhlosion’s Fire-Type moves.
  • Ability Competitive which sharply boosts its Sp.Attack when its stats are lowered.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Modest Nature.
    • Max out Sp.Atk with Calcium
    • Max out Defense with Iron
  • Recommended Moves:
    • Scald ~ Powerful Water-Type Special Attack
    • Safeguard ~ Prevents status conditions for the whole party, including Typhlosion’s burn.

  • Ability Guts boosts its attack when affected by a status condition, including Typhlosion’s burn.
  • Recommended Stat Spread
    • Adamant Nature.
    • Max out Atk with Protein
    • Max out HP with HPUp
  • Recommended Moves:

    • Headlong Rush ~ Powerful Ground-Type physical attack that also reduces Ursaluna’s defensive stats.
    • Rain Dance ~ Sets up Rainy Weather, reducing the power of Fire-Type moves and boosting the power of Water-Type moves.
    • Taunt~ Stops Typhlosion from using status moves.

    • Use Belly Drum to max out attack.
