On this day 13 years ago, on March 2, 2006, the Nintendo DS Lite was released in Japan.
Nintendo DS Lite was the first iteration of the Nintendo DS. Unlike its predecessor, the Nintendo DS Lite has a sleeker look, is slimmer and lighter, and has a larger screen. Nintendo sold about 93 million of these by March 31, 2014.
Demand for the DS Lite was so high that the the console would instantly sell out after it restocked at various retailers in Japan, Prices were even marked up at certain locations. Shortages lasted for about a year there.
