Liberal Democratic Party politician Shigeru Ishiba recently came up with what he thought would be a great idea to connect with the youth in his political campaign.
Ishiba’s campaign created a video featuring Ishiba’s likeness in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, along with other things such as Ishiba’s pattern in the game. Upon sharing this on Ishiba’s Twitter account, many Japanese commentators questioned whether the campaign’s actions were a violation of the Nintendo Account terms of service.
The campaign spoke to Nintendo, which did confirm that political activities are against the terms of service. Ishiba’s campaign quickly took down any material related to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is in contrast to the Joe Biden campaign, which Japanese commentators noted, has not taken down anything that has got to do with Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
