Labo VR Kit Designed For “Family-Friendly, Pass-And-Play Experiences” Says Doug Bowser

Just a few weeks ago, the Switch stepped in the VR arena with its Labo VR Kit. Today, Nintendo of America’s incoming President Doug Bowser shared some insight into Nintendo’s thought process behind the product.

There’s no denying that Labo VR kit is very unique compared to its competitors. Its made of cardboard so its a little less expensive and can be easily customized. It doesn’t have a headstrap so its harder to play it for long, but that also makes it easier to take off an pass around.

According to Doug Bowser, all of these design features may have been intentional choices on Nintendo’s part to encourage an imaginative and creative gaming environment that can be easily shared with family and friends.

In a statement published in Fortune, Nintendo of America’s soon-to-be President explained Nintendo’s vision for Labo VR as follows:

“Nintendo Labo is inherently designed to encourage imagination and creativity in people of all ages by blending real-world and virtual experiences,” Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. “This new kit takes that concept a step further by layering in virtual reality to bring the Toy-Con creations to life and encourage family-friendly, pass-and-play experiences.”

While Labo VR’s launch date of April 12th is still a little ways off, early reception of the kit seem positive. The vision of the product as explained by Bowser sounds good on paper, but only time will tell if this latest gamble of Nintendo’s will succeed in its goal.
