On July 18, 2017, Nintendo has filed a trademark application in Europe for the Nintendo 64 Controller. According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the trademark is registered under “telecommunication machines and apparatus” and “consumer video game apparatus”.
Besides the N64 Controller trademark, the NES Controller, SNES Controller, and Nintendo Switch Controller trademark applications were submitted to the EU IP Office on the same day, which you can view below.
No. 016991325 – Nintendo 64 controller
No. 016997637, NES controller
No. 016997652, SNES controller
No. 016997702, Nintendo Switch controller
Given how the SNES Controller resurfaced as a trademark submitted to Japan’s Intellectual Property Office, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Nintendo 64 Controller trademark is after all, for the imminent release of the Nintendo 64 Classic Mini. It’s a matter of when, not if.
