Nintendo Confirms It Will Continue To Support Switch 1 After Switch 2 Launch
Last month, Nintendo officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, which will be succeeding the original Nintendo Switch after the latter’s eight years of being Nintendo’s primary console.
However, it seems that doesn’t mean its over for the original Switch just yet. During the company’s latest financial results briefing (reported by Sankei), Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that they plan to continue to support the Switch 1 as long as there is “demand”, and that he does believe that the release of the Switch 2 will have an impact on the sales for the Switch 1.
Since before the Switch 2’s reveal, there have been a number of rumors claiming that Nintendo will continue to release games for the Switch 1 so as to not leave late adopters in the lurch when the successor system launches. Furukawa’s statement serves as the first official confirmation that this will indeed be the case, although it remains to be seen just how long they will continue support.
