Today marks the traditional Setsubun (first day of Spring) in Japan – and Nintendo is celebrating it with some family fun!
Namely, the company shared special artwork that depicts both Bowser and his son Bowser Jr. celebrating the occasion. As part of Setsubun tradition, Bowser is dressed up as an oni (demon) – while his son Bowser Jr. is throwing beans (and Bomb-ombs) at him.
Check it out in full resolution below:
For those feeling confused, this practice is known as mamemaki (bean scattering), which represents a dispelling of evil in Japanese tradition. Sometimes, parents will dress up as the oni and let their children scatter beans at them – such as with Bowser and Bowser Jr. here!
