Nintendo Switch 2 Provides 9GB Of RAM For Games, VRR Not Supported In TV Mode

Digital Foundry and Eurogamer have put out a report detailing some technical specifications of the Nintendo Switch 2 that have not been disclosed to the public yet.

As expected, Nintendo Switch 2 uses a Nvidia T239 chip that provides 12GB of RAM. Out of this 12GB of RAM, 9GB is reserved for applications, and 3GB is reserved for the operating system. In percentage terms, this is 5% slightly higher than the 20% memory (0.8GB) reserved for the operating system on Nintendo Switch (total 4GB of RAM).

Similar to Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2 has a ten-point multi-touch screen, allowing players to enjoy touch screen games. This, however, may be an issue if Nintendo wants to bring Nintendo DS games to Nintendo Switch Online in the future, as the DS used a capacitive touch screen.

It also seems that there is a GameChat testing tool provided to developers to check how GameChat could potentially affect performance. The tool simulates API latency and L3 cache misses on the dev kit, so the developer doesn’t have to test their game with actual GameChat sessions.

The report also confirmed that the Switch 2 has baked in DLSS features, allowing developers to take advantage of it through its SDK, and that VRR support is limited to the Switch 2’s internal display, so there is no VRR support in TV mode.
