The Pokemon Company has announced more details about Pokemon Bank becoming free-to-use at the end of the month.
Firstly, Pokemon Bank will officially become free-to-use on March 28th 2023. After this date, all 3DS owners who downloaded the app will be able to use it and the associated app Poke Transporter for free, allowing them to transfer Pokemon from their DS games to 3DS games, and subsequently to Pokemon HOME. Once it becomes free, the app will display “days remaining” as “?XX”. There is no end date for the free service at this time.
It should be noted however, that after March 28th 2023, players will no longer be able to download either Pokemon Bank or Poke Transporter since the 3DS eshop will be closed. Players are thus strongly advised to ensure that they have the apps downloaded ahead of time in order to be used. Unfortunately, the Pokemon Company states that Poke Transporter can only be downloaded with an active Pokemon Bank subscription, meaning that new players may need to purchase a subscription ticket for 5USD if they want to have the ability to transfer Pokemon from the DS titles.
Stay tuned for more details as they come.
