Pokemon Fans Speculate On Whether The Fish Cramorant Spits Is Also A New Pokemon

Earlier this week, The Pokemon Company introduced us to Cramorant, a new bird Pokemon that will be debuting in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

The key defining trait of Cramorant is its signature ability “Gulp Missile”: After Cramorant uses Surf or Dive, it will return with a fish in its mouth, which Cramorant will spit at opponents the next time it is attacked.

Since the reveal of this ability, some Pokemon fans have begun to wonder if the fish Cramorant spits might also be a new Pokemon all on its own. This is not the first time the series has used such an idea, as seen in the pairings of Mantine & Remoraid as well as the Slowpoke line and Shellder.

One big piece of evidence supporting the theory is that the fish has a rather distinctive look that is unlike any other fish Pokemon previously featured in the series. If the developers did not intend for this fish to be its own Pokemon, they could have easily gone with using Wishiwashi or a generic fish model.

Adding to the mystery is the now infamous leak from May 2019, which accurately predicted many of the game’s characters, Pokemon and features. At the very bottom of the post, the leaker talked about a “blue seagull” Pokemon that launches “a barracuda” at opponents. The leaker also mentions that the Pokemon may also catch a Pikachu, which could perhaps be a rare event when Cramorant activates its ability.

The best Pokémon so far is the blue seagull who when it dives, either gets a barracuda in its mouth or a pikachu, which it launches at its enemy

Whatever the case, we will likely have to wait and see whether this fish is indeed a new “barracuda” Pokemon that can be caught separately from Cramorant. We will be sure to bring more details as they come.
