The online servers for Pokemon Sword and Shield, the biggest games of the year, are being overwhelmed by heavy traffic.
Multiple Japanese users have been reporting disconnects and all sorts of error codes while attempting to play online:
“An error has occurred. Please try again later.”
“The network service may be under maintenance, or an incident may have happened. Please try again later.”
Nintendo has acknowledged the issue on their network status page. See the message translated by NintendoSoup below:
“Pokemon Sword/Shield
At this time, it might not be possible to access network services normally.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please try again at a later time.”
The outages begun at November 22, 2019 7:57am JST (around 2:57pm PT) and continue to persist.
