A new patent has surfaced hinting at a possible new feature coming to Nintendo games and consoles.
As shared by Nintendo Patents Watch, this new patent was published on September 4th 2025 and describes an achievement-like system similar to the ones used by Playstation and XBox, where players can earn system-wide rewards for completing certain challenges in games.
According to the patent, Nintendo’s version will task players to complete in-game goals in exchange for digital rewards or points. Players may be able to complete missions to receive icons or wallpapers for example, or use the points to purchase the rewards separately. This feature is also likely to be exclusive to Switch Online subscribers, similar to the current Missions and Rewards feature.
As with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take this with a grain of salt, as Nintendo does not always make features they patent into a reality. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
