Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures acceded to fan feedback and proceeded to rework Sonic’s disastrous movie design. During this time, there were rumors that the director of the Sonic Mania animated shorts Tyson Hesse was somehow involved with improving Sonic’s new look – and now it looks like we can confirm that to be true!
Following the latest trailer today, Hesse revealed that he indeed led the movie’s team to redesign Sonic’s new look. He even posted the same render of Sonic that first kickstarted all those rumors of his involvement – meaning that Sonic’s movie redesign was in front of our faces this whole time!
Aside from directing the Sonic Mania Adventures shorts, Hesse has also been a prolific artist on the Sonic comics. You can take a look at some of the covers he contributed in the past, for an idea of how well he knows the character up to this point:
Overall, it looks like they got the right guy for the job, as many fans seem to love Sonic’s new movie look! We’ll report back when we hear more in the future.
