Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition Box Art Hints At Final Number Of Fighters

Just yesterday, Amazon released the first images of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Special Edition.

However, the folks at GameXplain have already noticed a peculiar detail on the special edition’s packaging. Namely, that each side of the box can fit 36 fighters (including echo fighters).

If the box’s left side is similar, that hints at a grand total of 72 characters at launch.

Presently, Nintendo has revealed a total of 70 characters for the game (if we consider Pokemon Trainer and the Mii Fighters as single characters, and include Isabelle next to King K. Rool). This means that we may still have two unrevealed fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate:

  1. A new echo fighter (based on a character from the box’s left side)
  2. A completely new fighter (on the box’s right side, next to King K. Rool and Isabelle)

Of course, there’s no telling if even more characters are being planned as post-launch DLC. We’ll just have to wait and see.

For a more detailed look at this theory, check out GameXplain’s analysis below.
