[Update] Switch Owner Who Played Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Early Has Access Revoked By Nintendo

[Update] Switch Owner Who Played Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Early Has Access Revoked By Nintendo

A few days ago, we covered a story about a Switch owner @killetheth AKA “Rachael”, who managed to obtain access to Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp before it was officially released, seemingly due to having the game pre-loaded prior to the game’s latest delay announcement.

Unfortunately, @killetheth‘s time with the game may have finally come to an end. As shared in her most recent posts on Twitter, Nintendo has stepped in to revoke her early access to the game. Specifically, they have sent an email stating that they are cancelling and refunding her pre-order, with the implication being that should she attempt to take her Switch offline and try playing the game again, it could be considered illegal and get her in trouble.

“RE: #AdvanceWars again, I’m aware they can’t revoke my ability to play it if I’m offline. at the same time, once they refund me for it, it would be illegal to still play… so there’s that…”

It should be noted that, according to a detailed blog post shared by Rachael herself, the cancelling and refunding of the pre-orders appears to be something Nintendo had planned for all players who pre-ordered Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp prior to the delay announcement. Presumably, Rachael’s post about her early access to the game notified Nintendo that something had gone awry, and they are now moving to correct their error.

In light of Nintendo’s actions, it seems that they may not be planning to release Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp anytime soon. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.

[UPDATE 15.04.2022]: Rachael has posted another update on her Twitter account, stating that Nintendo got in touch with her directly to take down her screenshots and fully remove her access to the game. Following this, it is likely that any other Switch owners who have access to the game (if any) will not be sharing any details about it online moving forward.
