Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has outperformed its predecessors in Japan, according to sales figures from Media Create.
As of last week, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 moved 172,676 copies on Nintendo Switch. When compared to lifetime sales of Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii (103,762 copies according to Media Create, 163,000 according to Famitsu (thanks ZSaber)) and Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U (104,137 copies), it becomes apparent that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has performed exceptionally better than both titles.
Japanese commentators expect the game to sell 200,000 copies within the next few months. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is one of the games that have been affected by the Nintendo Switch software shortage in Japan.

You have the wrong numbers for Xenoblade 1. It sold 163K not 103K
Thread on 5ch took numbers from Media Create. 163k seems to be from Famitsu, so I'll add a note for it. Thanks!
