Even as it settles down into obscurity, last year’s Bowsette fan-art craze seems to be going out on a high note.
Haniwa, who started the viral meme with just one comic, has received a glass trophy from websites NicoNico and Pixiv. The award apparently congratulates the artist for creating the 20th most popular trend of 2018.
You can check out pictures of the actual trophy (Japanese etchings and all) in Haniwa’s tweet below.
In case you missed out on it – ‘Bowsette’ is a fan depiction of what Bowser would look like if he donned the Super Crown from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. The hilarious peach-lookalike has since gone on to feature in multiple fan mods, adult-site searches, and more – despite Nintendo outright refusing to talk about her.
In any case, it looks like the fan-character has really made a permanent mark in internet history. Whether or not everyone appreciates the questionable fan-art, there’s no doubt that Haniwa deserves some kudos for uniting various communities around the world!
