Japanese Man Arrested For Threatening To Blow Up Nintendo HQ
A man has been arrested in Japan for threatening to blow up Nintendo’s headquarters.
The 27-year old man was arrested on May 12th under suspicion of sending threatening letters to Nintendo, with contents including statements such as “I’m going to blow you all up”, “My plans cannot be thwarted.”, as well as claims that he had “already planted multiple bombs” within the company’s HQ.
Nintendo reported the matter to the police on March 16th, but they were unable to find anything suspicious during the investigation. Nevertheless, the man they arrested has pleaded guilty to the charges, although the police are still investigating his motives.
This is not the first time Nintendo has received threatening letters in their home country. In 2024 a man was arrested for threatening harm against personnel working at Splatoon Koshien National Finals 2023 tournament, causing it and the subsequent Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo to be cancelled out of safety concerns.
