Metal Slug Revival “Still Being Discussed”, SNK Still Unsure About “One-Hit-Death” Mechanic

Around this time last year, SNK’s Yasuyuki Oda asked the fans about whether the company should revive Metal Slug, and if they did, should it still keep its classic “one-hit-death” gameplay.

During the Tokyo Game Show last month, Twinfinite reached out to Oda and once again asked him whether SNK was working on that Metal Slug reboot. In response, Oda said that a reboot of Metal Slug is still very much under consideration, although nothing had been started yet. Furthermore, it seems internal discussion is still going on about whether to keep the “one-hit-death” mechanic.

Nothing is decided at the moment, nothing has actually been started, but we’re definitely in the phase where we started talking about “let’s bring it back. We want to bring it back.” The fans want it.

On whether we’d do the one-hit kill, there are still a lot of discussions about that, but I like the idea of maybe bringing two modes, perhaps with an easy mode with a life gauge.

But there is still a lot of discussion going on internally about that. We want to make sure we do it right.

Oda’s comments on Metal Slug‘s status come despite several past SNK press conferences which seemingly confirmed new Metal Slug games in production for consoles, although its possible that they were just talking about ports. We will be sure to keep an eye out for more new information about a potential Metal Slug revival as it comes.

What do you think? Would you like to see a brand new Metal Slug game on Switch? Let us know in the comments.
