In another move to protect its copyrights, Nintendo has reportedly begun taking down Youtube videos containing music from several of its classic titles.

The report was highlighted by Youtube channel GilvaSunner, which serves as an archive for classic videogame soundtracks. Although the channel has been hit by copyright takedowns from Nintendo in the past, the channel runner revealed that the company had recently blocked the entire soundtracks for Super Mario 64, Ocarina Of Time, and Mario Kart Wii.

It should be noted however that GilvaSunner’s Channel uploads the soundtracks in a completely unaltered state without gameplay for listening purposes. Furthermore, at the time of this writing, it is uncertain whether channels aside from GilvaSunner have been hit by similar takedowns.

Even though Nintendo is well within its rights to prevent its soundtracks from being uploaded to Youtube, many fans have been critical of this move as channels like GilvaSunner are often the only way for fans to listen to clean music from Nintendo’s games. These critics believe that the existence of these channels would not be necessary if Nintendo would make its game soundtracks available on Spotify or iTunes like some other companies, but only time will tell if this is a move Nintendo will consider making in the future.
