As many will know, Playtonic Games consists of ex-RARE developers who developed the Banjo-Kazooie series. Nowadays, they’re working on the similarly whimsical Yooka-Laylee series – although some signs could point at them revisiting the bird-and-bear duo!
Namely, the company and its staff have been undergoing some interesting developments. The first of which was the registration of a new company titled ‘PLAYTONIC GAMES DEVELOPMENT LIMITED’ awhile back. This was accompanied by one its co-owners, Gavin Price, updating his LinkedIn resume as follows:
Playtonic Credits
Yooka-Laylee, Yooka-Laylee & The Impossible Lair, and in the foreseeable future that game #3, #4 and the #5 one too which is the one I always thought would be game #1.
This pretty much points to the studio having new projects in its pipeline.
However, fans speculation really began heating up when one of Playtonic’s developers posted this image of a Microsoft bag – stating that he was bringing it ‘out of retirement’.
For those out of the loop, Microsoft is the current owner of the Banjo-Kazooie IP. While it could just be a pure coincidence or joke, some took it as a teaser that Playtonic could be working with Microsoft on something – especially something involving the bird and bear! Of course, many others were understandably skeptical.
What do YOU think? Is this all just a happy coincidence, or could Playtonic really be returning to Banjo-Kazooie? Feel free to share your thoughts below!
