Back in 2021, SEGA announced plans for a mysterious “Super Game”, which involved “innovative new titles” with an emphasis on a global online community and “IP Utilization”.
According to the company’s latest quarterly report however, the “Super Game” has now been cancelled. This info can be found in a slide talking about reviewing the company’s Gaas (Games As A Service) strategy, seemingly confirming that the Super Game was intended to be a live service title. The cancellation reportedly incurs “no additional costs” and will lead into a “Review the positioning of the pillars for medium- to long-term growth”.
Barring any major leaks from the company, it is likely that we will never know what this “Super Game” was intended to be. It had been described as a “large scale global title” that would be “revolutionary” in attracting players and content creators alike.
