During a Game Informer interview, Nintendo of America COO and President Reggie Fils-Aime was asked if the 3DS remains a big focus for Nintendo.
Reggie said that the 3DS continues to remain as an important business for Nintendo, and they’re going to support it by releasing more games into 2019. Sales in the US continue to grow in through May, up 10 percent year on year.
The President then shared further insight in Nintendo’s strategy of converting 3DS owners into Switch owners. Reggie says a child aged 5 to 7 years who gets a Nintendo 3DS this year will probably move on to Nintendo Switch when they turn 10 or 12. He says their strategy of making the 3DS a gateway device for young children is working, thanks to its price point, form factor, and surviving the drop test.
