Rumor: Nintendo Planning More New Switch Models With Better Graphic Displays

Earlier this year, Nintendo unveiled the fully portable Switch Lite along with an updated model for the original Switch as new versions of their flagship console. However, rumors about even more new models being in production have continued to circulate, mostly revolving around a more high-end “Pro” model of the console.

This latest batch of rumors comes courtesy of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), who has apparently been speaking to numerous industry insiders for the latest scoop about Nintendo’s plans. These insiders claim that Nintendo is hard at work on future revisions to the console, supposedly to “make the platform’s lifespan long”.

As further evidence for a “Pro” model being on the way, the WSJ published statements from Katsuaki Nomura, Vice-President of Sharp. Allegedly, the company has been supplying a new line of high-end IGZO graphics displays to an unnamed “videogame publisher” which WSJ strongly believes to be Nintendo.

IGZO displays are said to be more durable and more energy efficient than what the Switch currently uses, and would be a perfect fit for a new model, be it the upcoming Lite or rumored Pro.

That said, Nintendo has already come out to say that apart from the Lite, no new hardware revisions for the Switch are planned to launch this year. This of course doesn’t rule out the possibility of an announcement this year at least, but only time will tell.
