Over the past few weeks, rumors have been steadily escalating that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be revealed soon, possibly as early as next month.
The latest round of rumors are about the consoles supposed hardware and features. Firstly, Reuters is claiming that graphics card manufacturer Nvidia is working on a new business unit dedicated to developing bespoke chips for hardware manufacturers, with one of its clients being Nintendo and its Switch successor. An anonymous source told the outlet that the “new version” of the Switch is expected to launch this year, and is “likely” to include one of these custom chips. Nintendo themselves however, declined to comment when reached out to.
Nintendo’s current Switch handheld console already includes Nvidia’s Tegra X1 chip. A new version of the Switch console expected this year is likely to include a Nvidia custom design
The next set of rumors was reported via Universo Nintendo, and is attributed to content creator PH Brazil, who supposedly shared correct info in the past. PH Brazil claims that the Switch successor will feature backwards compatibility with both physical and digital games originally released for Switch. Developers will also have the option to enhance their OG Switch games to take advantage of the successor’s higher specs. PH Brazil also echoed rumors of an upcoming Nintendo Direct next week, and the full reveal of the successor coming next month.
As with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take them with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
