Universal Studios has revealed the official opening window for Japan’s Super Nintendo World, one of their upcoming theme parks based on Nintendo.
The news come from Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts Tom Williams, who shared more details about Super Nintendo World at Comcast’s 2019 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference.
Williams revealed that Universal was aiming to launch Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan in Spring 2020. Furthermore, he also confirmed that the Super Mario Kart and Yoshi rides would be available to the public on opening day.
In addition, Williams also mentioned that the park will have a unique “interactive” element. Using magnetic bracelets, guests would be able to earn “scores” by interacting with the rides and other parts of the park. These scores are also said to “interface back with your game console. So you can build on it and come back again.”. This could mean that some kind of Super Nintendo World Switch app is in the works, but we will have to wait and see.
Regarding the status of Super Nintendo World at Universal Orlando and Hollywood, Williams declined to comment, saying he “didn’t want to defer attendance”. However, he did say that creating parks usually takes around “5 to 6 years”.
With this in mind, its likely that we may have to wait quite some time longer before the park opens in Orlando, Hollywood, and Singapore.
