Valve, the company behind Steam and the Steam Deck, have announced their own piece of game console-like hardware.
The “console” is called the Steam Machine, and is a highly optimized gaming PC with a cube-shaped form factor, drawing more than a few comparisons to Nintendo’s iconic GameCube. It is designed mainly to play games that are hosted on Steam, running on the same SteamOS that powers the Steam Deck. It will release sometime in 2026 alongside a dedicated controller and a new Valve VR headset called the Steam Frame.
This is the second piece of dedicated gaming hardware Valve has produced following the Steam Deck, arguably making them another contender for the fourth pillar in the space alongside Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
