Detective Pikachu Writers Reveal How They Would Approach A Super Smash Bros. Film

Previously, we’ve seen fans toy with the concept of a ‘Nintendo Cinematic Universe‘ in light of Avengers: Endgame wrapping up years of Marvel movies. It looks like they’re not alone with their pipe dreams, however – as the writers of Detective Pikachu have some ideas of their own.

Recently, Screen Rant spoke to Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit about how they would approach a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ film themselves. While brief, the duo mentioned that the build-up to a huge crossover was most crucial – not the actual crossover itself.

“I think that the key to doing anything like that is to make sure that the other introductory movies are sensational. It’d be a dream to write something like Legend of Zelda, but before you can get to that Smash Bros stage you have to write the best damn version of The Legend of Zelda that you possibly can. And the same with Mario, the same with Kirby, the same with Star Fox.” – Dan Hernandez

“Avengers: Endgame is only as good as it is because we loved all of those characters individually, so when it came together it was just magic. And I think that’s how you have to approach the Smash Bros.” – Benji Samit

Essentially, Hernandez and Samit feel like Marvel’s model would also work here. Hypothetically speaking, every videogame movie Nintendo makes would have to build a strong fandom around each character – before it all culminates in them meeting together.

What do you think? Do you agree with these two writers, or have other ideas of your own? Let us know with your comments below!
